Persephone.
For as long as I can remember, this Goddess from the ancient mythology has been meaningful to me. Just the whisper of her name would resonate within my heart, as a sense of belonging, a figure to protect me for whatever had to come.
Queen of the Underworld and Goddess of spring, the story of Persephone is the one of a daughter, a maiden, turned into the queen of her own shadow. A young woman captured by the ruler of hell, her youth, her joy, her freedom, the love of her mother, all taken away from her in this dark, cold and unknown wasteland.
To become the Queen of the Underworld wasn’t her choice, she had to, she had to take her own power to survive and thrive through the pain of her peace of mind and her quiet life suddenly ripped away from her.
Seven seeds have made her sin.
eating a fruit belonging to the realm of death is the merciless greatest sin.
And yet, hearing the pain of her mother, Queen of earth, leading the mortal realms to chaos, to an eternal winter, even Hades, the unforgiving, had to kneel down facing the love laying at the core of a mother for her daughter.
Love killed her as much as love saved her.
Half of the year on earth, half of the year in hell, half of the year in the fruitful light, half of the year in the endless night
Is Persephone, Queen of the underworld, eternally morning the unfairness of her fate, or ruling proudly as a Queen and wife to the evil ? No one will ever know
Is she truly reigning over darkness or is she still terrified of it ?
No one can tell
That’s why the name of Persephone resonates so deeply within my own heart. She is duality.
Darkness and the hopeful spring.
A young woman crying over her wounds in silence, all alone, while keeping her head up with majesty over the evil forces
Mourning what she couldn’t be, her mother, and life. A maiden turned into an independent woman in the matter of a night. Proud and powerful, and yet, her heart bleeding and the echoes of her cries for help lost in the silent and unforgiving night.
